Detroit Red Wings: Record Setting Year

By KRISTIAN CAMPBELL, Staff Writer

On Sunday, Feb. 12, the Detroit Red Wings became the third team in the history of the NHL to win 20 straight home games in the NHL, joining the 1929-30 Boston Bruins and the 1976-77 Philadelphia Flyers.

The Red Wings, who are one of the most storied franchises in sports, will have the opportunity to set the record at 21 against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Johan Franzen scored the game winning goal 52 seconds into the third period. The other goal scorers were Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, and Niklas Kronwall. Joey MacDonald was in the goal for the night, stopping 26 shots and surrendering 3 goals.

Goaltender Jimmy Howard was out with a broken finger. He already has a league-leading 32 wins, and is having the best season in his young career. Other scratches included Daniel Cleary, who was out with a knee injury, and Mike Commodore, who was out with a healthy scratch.
