Judges Round Table featured at Art Walk Central

MOUNT PLEASANT – Join the judges of Art Walk Central, Deborah Rockman and Scott Hocking from 7-8 p.m. on Aug.18, as they talk about this year’s event, the role of art within the community and announce who the winners are of the adult and youth categories.

Deborah Rockman, artist and teacher for more than 30 years, is currently a Professor of Art and Chairperson of the Drawing and Printmaking Programs at Kendall College. Rockman’s “award winning art focuses on drawing, collage, mixed media and digital media.” Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States.

Scott Hocking currently lives and works in Detroit. Hocking “creates site-specific sculptural and photographic installation projects, regularly using found materials.” His work has been displayed nationally, in solo and group exhibitions.

Alongside the judges, artists and Art Walk Central committee members Anne Gochenour, Denise Fanning and Al Wildey will talk about specific art mediums and how they come up with the ideas for their pieces.

Anne Gochenour is currently the Gallery Director for the Department of Art and Design at Central Michigan University. With a Master of Fine Arts, Gochenour’s work mainly focuses on “humankind’s relationship with the natural world.”

Denise Fanning has two separate degrees from Eastern Michigan University in sculpture and painting. Her work shows consistently within the Detroit area, and has been displayed in Philadelphia and Berlin.

Al Wildey is an Associate Professor of Photography at Central Michigan University. His work is “a continual process of visual investigation, striving to manipulate and maneuver camera vision. Wildey’s images function by alternating private and public sections, combining layers of cultural reflections and personal insights.”

The discussion will take place in the City Commission Chambers at Mount Pleasant’s City Hall, 320 W. Broadway. This event is free and open to the public.
