HARRISON — Tickets are now on sale for Mid Michigan Community College’s Twentieth Annual Barbecue and Fall Festival sponsored by Glen’s Markets and Family Fare Supermarkets. This fun, community event will take place on Sept. 16 from noon to 4 p.m.
“There are a number of things that we’re very excited about,” said Carol Darlington, event coordinator. “This year marks the 20th anniversary of this great community event. In recognition of 20 years, the grand prize in this year’s ticket drawing will be 20 free credit hours of tuition to MMCC. That means that for the advanced purchase of a $5 ticket, or $7 on the day of the event, someone is going to win 20 free credit hours of tuition. Other prizes will include a big screen television and a number of gift cards that can be used at Glen’s Markets, Valu Land, or Family Fare.”
The Fall Festival, which takes place on the front lawn of MMCC’s Harrison Campus, includes a pork dinner with all the trimmings, compliments of Glen’s Markets and Family Fare Supermarkets.
In addition to great food, there are activities for the entire family, including live bands, children’s games, train rides, and much more. Cruis’n Classics, a classic car group out of Gladwin, is sponsoring a classic car, truck, and motorcycle show again this year; a large number of health care vendors will be on site for a health fair and health screenings, and the Clare County Arts Council will showcase the artwork of local artists.
Pleasing the crowd for a number of years, the Central Michigan Concert Band will be returning to the stage again this year, and Open Range Band will be entertaining the crowd with the sound of country music. The fully-restored 1880 Chuck Wagon owned by Chip Frick of Farwell will be returning as well.
The College’s Timber Trail Trot, a 5K Walk/Run on MMCC’s groomed trails, will take place for the sixth year at 10 a.m. A more challenging foot race, the Timber Trail XT 8 mile race, will occur on the college’s mountain bike trail starting at 9 a.m. Visit midmich.edu/timbertrailtrot for more information about these races and to register.
“We expect to serve well over 2,000 meals and raise over $25,000 for scholarships for deserving MMCC students,” said Darlington. “As our enrollment increases, so has the need for this fundraiser. We appreciate how dedicated the community has been in making this event successful for 19 years.”
Tickets cost $5 in advance and $7 on the day of the event. Tickets are available at all MMCC bookstores, Family Fare Supermarkets in Gladwin and Harrison, and Valu Land in Clare. For general festival information, contact Darlington at (989) 386-6625 or visit midmich.edu/bbq.
