HARRISON — Mid Michigan Community College Community (MMCC) Theatre will hold auditions for its two fall productions.
This year’s touring theatre will be the children’s classic, The Pied Piper by Shubert Fendrich and Patrick Rainville. Auditions will be held on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. – noon in the MMCC Auditorium. This children’s participation play will tour area elementary schools with an adult cast.
Rehearsals for The Pied Piper will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m.-noon. Touring dates will be scheduled for late October and early November.
The fall on-campus production will be Leaving Iowa: A Comedy About Family Vacations by Tim Clue and Spike Manton. Auditions will be held on Aug. 28 from 3 – 6 p.m. in the MMCC Auditorium. The cast requires three males and three females but may be expanded.
The spark behind Leaving Iowa comes from being children of parents from the now dubbed “greatest generation.” The story is a toast to their idealism and character and a little roast of their undying dedication to the classic family road trip.
In the play, Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, returns home and decides to finally take his father’s ashes to his childhood home, as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma’s house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper resting place for his father. The play is a postcard to anyone who has ever found himself or herself driving alone on a road, revisiting fond memories of his or her youth.
Rehearsals for Leaving Iowa will be each Tuesday and Thursday from 3 – 6 p.m. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 6, 8, 13, 15, 16 and 17.
