Mid Michigan Community College will host two informational “thank you” events for U.S. veterans in October. Events will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 5 at its Mt. Pleasant Doan campus and Oct. 12 at its Harrison campus.
The event will include free food, a chance to meet with current student vets, and information about MMCC’s opportunities and G.I. Bill and financial aid options.
Veterans interested in learning more about their college options and paying for school are encouraged to attend one of the informational sessions.
“We really wanted to do something to reach out to veterans in our communities and to offer our resources to them,” said Julie Fortino, event coordinator. “These events aren’t about selling MMCC in particular; they’re about providing a chance for veterans to have all of their educational questions answered by knowledgeable people.”
The day will include a Q&A with area VA counselors, presentations by MMCC professionals, and opportunities to interact personally with MMCC students and staff.
Janice Sagle, military veteran and MMCC academic advisor, feels that this event could be essential as a step forward for veterans who are trying to make college decisions.
“As a veteran myself, I know how daunting it can be to start and navigate the education process. As an academic advisor and veteran certifying official at MMCC, I get the amazing opportunity to assist veterans with their college experiences from start to finish,” Sagle said. “Procurement of necessary military paperwork, financial aid assistance, academic advising, and transfer information are just a few of the services we are able to provide each veteran in a personalized way.”
