NOVI — Fans of the Twilight saga flocked to special Twilight convention the weekend of Sept. 29 hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars from the hit movie series the Twilight Saga. Stars from the hit saga who appeared over the course of the two-day convention include Booboo Stewart, Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Charlie Bewley and Casey LaBow.
The weekend event, held at the Novi Sheraton, started out the same for me as for everyone else. Being a huge Twilight fan I had been waiting for this weekend for months. It only made sense to me and Jennifer Hesselink, a former MMCC student and my sister-in-law, to sit down in the lobby’s bar area in hopes of running into one of the stars before the convention began.
About 10 minutes later a Town Car pulled up to the hotel. Chaske Spencer, Alpha wolf Sam Uley, walked into the hotel dressed in a winter coat and ball cap. After checking in, he headed toward the elevator. I walked up to him before he had the chance to get on the elevator, introduced myself and told him what a big fan I am. Spencer was very friendly, smiled and gave me a hug.
Booboo Stewart and his family arrived next. He was nice and posed when we asked for a picture with him. Stewart is happy to know that his fans care enough to walk up and greet him. He said he plans to continue acting and loves the business that comes with it. Stewart’s next movie, White Frog, is to be released sometime in 2013. During Q and A he shared that he and his family volunteer at a local mission on holidays serving meals to people who are less fortunate.
Vendors filled the convention with everything Twilight. Fans from all over the country piled into the hotel ballroom and were able to write down their questions for a Q and A session with the actors.
There was a brunch with the actors on Sunday and I was able to interview Spencer and Stewart.
A Pearl Jam fan, Spencer shared that in his spare time he enjoys taking photographs and traveling. He recently had a gallery showing and is planning a website to sell his work.
Stewart said he isn’t sure what his next project is yet, but acting is his passion over music.
The next big movie for Alex Meraz, who also was in attendance, is “Mind Games,” which is currently making the rounds in Australia. Its opening date in U.S. theaters still has not been announced. In the movie, his character and his co-stars find their own bodies in a mine. Meraz said a lot of screaming was done by his co-stars. He said he had a hard time with it because he hates to see a woman cry.
The Twilight convention was an exciting experience and makes me more excited for the new movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2, to be released on Nov. 16.
