Signature Dishes: The Budd Lake Bar has become a town favorite because of its consistent quality and variety of fare, ranging from a prime rib special on Saturdays to its selection of fish and seafood, chicken dishes and pasta. Steaks include a 24-ounce Porterhouse and 12-ounce Ribeye and Top Sirloin. There is indeed something for everyone, including amazing burgers and sandwiches, and generous entree salads that include a Traverse City Cherry Chicken Salad, served with mixed greens, sliced almonds, red onions, sun-dried cherries and grilled chicken, topped with a tasty cherry vinaigrette.

Personal Favorite: I don’t know where to start. I must mention the mussels appetizer  cooked in a choice of beers, which is delicious if you like those wonderful mollusks. As a wings connoisseur, I highly recommend the chicken wings, served with your choice of sauce (mild, hot, sesame peanut, honey fire, sweet chili or honey garlic). They also have bacon-wrapped maple scallops that sound delicious. From the entree list, you’re sure to enjoy the bacon-wrapped pork tenderloins, which are char-grilled and finished with brandied apple sauce. Pan-fried lake perch and Icelandic cod (broiled or deep fried) also are consistently good choices, as are the Smothered Breasts of Chicken, grilled and topped with mushrooms, onions and Provolone cheese. They also serve some great sides, including sweet potato rounds and a selection of sauteed vegetables.

Atmosphere: The setting is bar-like and somewhat noisy, but there are plenty of comfortable tables.

Side Note: The Budd Lake Bar recently began serving breakfast on Sundays. They also provide carryout service and have private banquet rooms for special events. For current events and entertainment, you can visit them on Facebook. The Budd Lake Bar has two sister restaurants, the Limberlost in Houghton Lake and the Firehouse Bar & Grill in St. Helen.
