In the past few years, Mid Michigan Community College’s athletic programs have really been on the rise. Right now, with four club sports, Mid cannot yet join the Michigan Community College Athletic Association but with the way things are going, that could change within a few years. The Michigan Community College Athletic Association allows varsity sports at community colleges.

The “club” sports that Mid offers are at the first step of joining the National Junior College Athletic Association. Just this year the men’s basketball team entered the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), which gives them the opportunity to play against more competitive teams.

While the challenges of joining a new league seemed great, the Lakers are proving that they belong in the NJCAA by bringing home wins. Along with the challenges of joining the NJCAA, the Lakers’ Mens’ Basketball team is also working with new head coach Kaleb House. In the 2011-2012 season, the Lakers finished with a 18-8 record. This year, the Laker’s will yet again continue their legacy.
