Plans for the expansion of the MMCC campus located at Summerton and Broadway are on track with a groundbreaking expected for early Spring 2013.
“The plans are close to being finalized,” Matt Miller, Vice President of Student and Community Relations at MMCC, said. “ We are submitting the next version of the building plans to the state in early January.”
It is still possible that there will be changes along the way, but the plans will be nearly complete at that point.
“The overall design was developed by Hobbs and Black architectural firm,” Carol Churchill, MMCC President, said in an August 2012 interview. Spence Brothers was chosen as construction manager for the project through a bidding process. The goal of the building is to meet the needs of all of the building occupants while staying in budget and within construction limitations.
The new center, which allows for the closing of the Pickard campus, will house liberal arts, business, visual arts, and math programs. Plans also include dedicated math and language labs, an area for supplemental instruction, small group study areas and a library. Classes are expected to begin there in Fall 2014.
