Mid-Michigan Big Brothers/Big Sisters hold annual art auction

CLARE — The Clare County Arts Council (CCAC) is again teaming up with Big Brothers/Big Sisters (BBBS) in their annual Art Auction to be held at 7 p.m. on March 13 at the Doherty Hotel in Clare.

BBBS has been serving mid Michigan since 1975. Many activities are participated in with a mentor becoming a special friend to these young people. They spend homework time together, go bowling, skiing, attend sports events and enjoy waterparks, Mackinac Island, baking, shopping and fishing.

Several artists will be demonstrating and showing their art in the lobby of the hotel for the auction. Monica Rouech will be demonstrating drawing, Tom Cradit will give tips on photography and Julie Wells will be working on a mixed media creation using acrylic and oil pastel to create texture. Tracy Fair will be demonstrating how to make her Irish Rose wire rings. The rings will be for sale for $5 each with $1 from each sale donated to the event. She also will donate a piece of jewelry for the auction.

Many local artists of all ages are donating their hand-made pieces to the cause. And, new this year, high school students from Clare and Gladwin counties donating work to the auction were invited to compete for prize money. First place, $100; second place, $50; and third place, $25.  Photos of the art work are on the BBBS website with winners being chosen by popular vote. You can vote for your favorite at  www.midmichiganbbbs.org
