It could be your mother, your sister, your cousin or friend but most likely, it’s someone you would never expect. In fact, it may not even be a woman — it could be a man.
Every single day women and men in the United States are victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Some people may not get help before it’s too late. Others may suffer their whole lives. There are others who realize they need help and turn to organizations like Women’s Aid Service (WAS) which covers Clare, Gratiot and Isabella counties.
WAS runs an emergency shelter and provides crisis intervention for domestic violence victims. Like many other agencies, their needs are great and funds are short.
The MMCC chapter of the Golden Z’s are currently holding a “shower” for the Women’s Aid Service (WAS) shelter. A list of items needed is below. Items that are highlighted in yellow are the items that are needed most.
For more information on WAS, visit womens-aid.org or click here. If you are in need of emergency help, contact the WAS emergency services line at (989) 539-1046 in Clare County, (989) 463-6014 in Gratiot County and (989) 772-9168 in Isabella County.
