GENRE: Action, Adventure
DIRECTOR: Jon M. Chu
WRITERS: Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick
WHO’S IN IT: Dwayne Johnson, Jonathan Price, D.J. Cotrona, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicik, Bruce Willis
THE STORY: The G.I. Joes are framed for a crime they didn’t commit. The President of the United States orders them to be destroyed and Firefly carries out the attack. Three of them manage to survive the attack and they go after Zartan and his accomplices. In the end they manage to save the world and the real President of the United States while vindicating themselves.
IN MY OPINION: Only five actors returned from the first movie, which made it seem like a totally different movie. I didn’t feel like there was as much of a continuation of the original story as I wish there had been. Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson had good chemistry but they killed Tatum’s character off within the first 15 minutes leaving only four returning actors. The martial art scenes were well done and the scenes where they were repelling through the air were way cool. Since I have a fear of heights I did wince more often than I care to admit. Bruce Willis’ part was small yet it was one of the highlights of the film. He has great comedic timing and should have been utilized more. I also would have liked to see more focus on the team that he brought with him. It was a good movie and I enjoyed it overall, but I do think it missed its potential of being a great movie. They set up a third movie and I look forward to seeing that one — especially if they keep Bruce Willis around.
