The Clare County Arts Council is pleased to present James R. Embrey showing his oil painting at Maxwell’s Florist in Clare through the month of September. Jim hails from Farwell where he graduated from high school and attended Central Michigan University. He graduated from CMU with a bachelor of Science degree. Jim worked several jobs before becoming a teacher in Industrial Arts, Career Education, and Science for 26 years. Jim is now retired and like many of us discovered he could paint after the age of 40. He began with water colors and moved to pencil sketching and charcoals. When his long time artist/friend Richard Day introduced Jim to oils he had found his medium. A few years later he had developed his recognizable style of heavy paint and bold strokes.
Whether using brush or palette knife, painting wet on wet and mixing color on the canvas as he goes his paintings become bold and Impressionistic. Jim’s impressive paintings may be seen at Maxwell’s Florist in Clare through the month of September. Maxwell’s is located on the corner of McEwan and 5th street in downtown Clare, across from the Doherty hotel. They are open M-Th. 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Fridays 7:30 am to 7:00 pm, Sat. 8-4 and closed on Sunday. If you would like to meet Jim, he will be in the florist shop on Saturday, Sept. 14th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
