After an exciting season, the Mid Michigan Community College Lakers men’s basketball team made it to their first-ever NJCAA tournament. After starting the season 5-12, and enduring a few tough losses, the team went on a 10- game winning streak and finished the season 15-13 including the post season.
The Lakers hosted, and won, the Region XII playoff game against Lorain County Community College. The game, which was held at Morey Courts, drew about 250 spectators to see the Lakers win 102-88.
As Region XII champions, they moved on to the District 2 playoffs where they won their first game against Madison College (Wisconsin) before falling in the second round to Harper College (Illinois) in a close game.
The team, which faced nationally ranked competition early in the year, came together to make a convincing playoff run. At 5-12 midway through the season, the team knew that they had to win the rest of their games to make the playoffs. From that point forward, the Lakers made a surge and were able to represent MMCC in the playoffs.
The MMCC Lakers men’s and women’s basketball teams will be back in action in late Fall 2014. Home games are held at Morey Courts.
