Walt Wilson is this year’s recipient of the Witbeck Scholarship to Mid Michigan Community College. This renewable scholarship provides full tuition for up to 12 credit hours, fees, and required textbooks at MMCC.
Wilson, a Clare resident, graduated with his one-year Automotive Technology certificate last year and is currently pursuing his Automotive Technology Associate Degree. He plans to seek local employment after graduation so that he can continue to provide for his family, including two daughters, Hailey and Destany.
“Getting the Witbeck scholarship was amazing,” said Wilson. “I always apply to win things and never do, so when I was notified of the scholarship, I was surprised. It’s going to help me out a lot—there are a lot of tools I need for my career and these funds will make a real difference.”
The Witbeck Award, sponsored by Witbeck’s Family Food in Clare, is offered to a resident of Beaverton, Clare, Farwell, Gladwin or Harrison school districts who possesses either a high school diploma or GED. To renew this award for the second semester, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher and be enrolled at MMCC full time.
“The Witbecks have helped so many students with this scholarship,” said Matt Miller, MMCC’s VP of Student and Community Relations. “Our students are so fortunate to have community members like the Witbecks who make education more accessible.”
