PTK president, Alpha Omicron Omicron
Phi Theta Kappa is a very prestigious organization that has more than 1,000 chapters worldwide. MMCC’s chapter is Alpha Omicron Omicron and getting involved with us can be the edge you need to impress an interviewer and win a job over your competitors.
After joining PTK, doors will open for you that will change your life. You will be able to do things that you never even thought were possible. Many scholarship opportunities will open for you, even no-competition scholarships. After joining, you are not required to do much at all, but the more involved you get, the more opportunities you will have.
By getting involved you will meet a lot of important people who will know you by name and even call you friend. Want to know what we do around here? Well, we sponsor a variety of events around the college and the community, helping out people who need it.
Our largest fundraiser is “Deadwood Grove,” which is our haunted forest Halloween fundraiser. The event will be held this year from 7-10 p.m. Oct. 24, 25, 31 and Nov. 1 on the Harrison Campus. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. That includes the haunt and hot cocoa.
If you see an event happening around the college, we are usually the head of it or, at the very least, involved. But it’s not all business around here, either. We happen to have a ton of fun as well. We go to conventions and conferences all around the nation. Last year we went to Orlando, Florida and this year we are going to San Antonio, Texas. We also go on retreats across the state just to bond with each other and have a good time.
So, interested in joining us? We have an induction ceremony coming up at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 and we would love to have you join us! All you need is a 3.5 GPA and 12 community college credits to join PTK. It’s not too late to be one of this year’s PTK inductees. Enrollment is open now through Oct. 31. Our chapter has more than 500 eligible students, yet only about 10 percent join. They are missing out on amazing scholarship and leadership development opportunities.
This year’s speaker at the induction ceremony is MMCC’s sociology professor, Chuck Bowden. He’s a student favorite, an engaging speaker and lecturer, and an honorary member of the Alpha Omicron Omicron chapter.
If you’re eligible or just interested in learning more about the organization, send an email to Tammy Alvero at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit her in her office. If you have any questions, you can ask Tammy or myself. My email is email@example.com. Hope to see you Oct. 10!
