A fundraiser organized by the employees at Bob Evans in Mt. Pleasant raised more than $1,000 to help a former co-worker whose parents are recovering from injuries sustained in a serious auto accident.
The fundraiser, held Nov. 14-16, allowed restaurant employees and patrons to help in several ways. On Friday, Nov. 14, from 2-10 p.m., all servers donated 100 percent of their tips to the family’s GoFundMe account. That raised about $300. If patrons brought in a flyer and presented it at check-out, 15 percent of the purchase price was donated to the fund, bringing in about $150. About $600 was received at the restaurant in cash donations over the weekend, according to Brianne Curtis, one of the employees who helped organize the fundraiser.
“We had a lot of regulars leave $50 to $100, which was incredible,” Curtis said. “A lot of guests were blown away by the generosity of the younger generations, because we were working but donating our tips.”
The recipients of this generosity are former employee Kinsey Cole and her parents, Frank and Wendy Rallo, of Cadillac. The Rallos were seriously injured when an SUV crossed the centerline on Williamsburg Road in Grand Traverse County’s Whitewater Township on the night of Sept. 13. Both are still recovering.
