Employees at Mid Michigan Community College took time again this year to help area children have a merry Christmas. The employees hosted a Christmas party for 60 children from Clare and Gladwin counties, complete with Santa and presents donated by MMCC faculty and staff.
“The kids have a great time every year,” said Martha Budd, event coordinator. “We started the evening off with a horse-drawn wagon ride and food, and then Santa and his elves, Sparkles and Bubbles, passed out gifts.”
As part of the event, two food baskets were given away to a family in Clare County and Gladwin County respectively. The baskets each included a full Christmas dinner, a popcorn tin, a throw blanket, and a board game.
Bob and Linda Guiliani from Guys and Dolls Photography in Clare donated their services to take a picture of each child on Santa’s lap. Phi Theta Kappa, the student honor society at MMCC, also volunteered at the event.
“The children’s faces just light up, and that makes all of the hard work more than worth it,” said Budd. “It’s really rewarding to be a part of the MMCC team, because so many members of the college contribute and work together to make this event so special.”
