Address: 601 N. McEwan St., Clare, MI 48617
Phone: (989) 424-6077
Hours: 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Mon.-Thurs.; 11 a.m.-midnight Fri. and Sat.; 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sun. (hours change seasonally)
Signature Dishes: Both lunch and dinner options are available (lunch menu available 11 a.m.-5 p.m.). A nice variety of salads on both menus, ranging from Cobb and Caesar to a Romaine Waldorf Salad with maple vinaigrette dressing. Several different popular salmon dishes available on the dinner menu, but a big draw is that their meats are smoked on site, some for 15 hours. Smoked meats include BBQ ribs, beef brisket, chicken dinner and pork dinner.
Personal Favorite: Chicken Caesar is one of my favorite dishes. It’s served with romaine, fresh Parmesan cheese, croutons and a mild homemade dressing. It’s also large enough that it fills you up as an entree. On the dinner menu it comes with a cup of homemade soup.
Atmosphere: The interior is small but nicely remodeled. It only opened as a restaurant in February 2015. It has a definite pub feel, which is appropriate since it prides itself on its large selection of craft beers. There’s also a small outdoor patio (weather permitting), but it is right on McEwan Street so noise can be an issue.
Value: Prices are not cheap, but seem reasonable for the portions. Sandwiches start at $7.95, with entree salads ranging from $7.95 to $9.95 on the lunch menu. Dinner entrees (which include a salad, starch and vegetable) range from $13.95 to $21.95 for a full rack of BBQ ribs. There are also daily specials.
Side Note: The restaurant is attached to Maxwell’s flowers and gifts and a delightful candy shop. There are plenty of homemade chocolates and candies to take with you. It’s quite a temptation on the way out.
