8 scholarships available to high school seniors

This marks the fourth year that Mid Michigan Community College will award competitive full-ride scholarships to eight high school seniors. Laker Distinction (LD) Scholarships are offered at two award levels, with four of each being conveyed.

The scholarship’s traditional level provides for 31 credits worth of tuition and fees. Presidential LD Scholarships, the highest awards, include 62 credits (the equivalent of an associates degree) worth of tuition and fees. The Presidential LD Scholarship is renewable and includes a $500/semester stipend for books and school supplies.

Selection for the 2015 scholarships will occur over the course of three months, and applicants will attend two events at MMCC as they progress through the process. Final determinations will be based on the students’ leadership, service, and academic performance.

To qualify for LD Scholarships, applicants must be Michigan high school seniors with a 3.5 GPA or better. They must also RSVP for and attend the scholarship’s first selection event, which will be held at the college’s Mt. Pleasant campus on Oct. 31. RSVP’s can be placed online at midmich.edu/distinction.

“It’s always rewarding to see how many exceptional students apply for these scholarships, and we hope to see those numbers grow in 2015,” says Brent Mishler, MMCC’s Associate Director of Admissions. “It’s extremely hard to narrow down our final selection to just eight students—there are a number of remarkable local students.”
