MT. PLEASANT, MI – The Broadway Theatre, located in Downtown Mt. Pleasant, is pleased to announce that they have received a $1,750 Arts Project Minigrant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). The Minigrant program is a partnership between the MCACA and 15 regional regranting agencies throughout the state.
Support from the MCACA grant will help offset production costs of “A Celebration of Christmas” to be presented at the Broadway Theatre the first two weekends in December. The show is a mixture of original play writing combined with variety show acts and pieces in the public domain. The show will include both traditional and modern Christmas music. It was arranged and partially written by Janet Sowle of Clare and Laura Strait of Mt. Pleasant.
There are two components of the Minigrant program, Arts Projects and Professional Development grants. They offer special opportunities to address local arts and cultural needs as well as increasing public access to arts and culture.
Performances of “A Celebration of Christmas” will be held Dec. 4-6 and 11-12. Performance times are Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The Dec. 5 evening performance will start 30 minutes after the lighted parade passes the Broadway. Tickets to the production are $10 will be available in early November at Ace of Diamonds and Ric’s Food Center in Mt. Pleasant.
