Mid Michigan Community College Community Theatre has put together a talented cast for its April production of the Yooper comedy, “Escanaba in da Moonlight” by Jeff Daniels. The play will be presented later this month in the MMCC Auditorium on the Harrison campus.
The buckless Yooper tale of Reuben Soady (Nick Johnston, Clare) is told through the patriarch of the family, Albert Soady (John D. McPeak, Midland). The men are gathering at the Soady Deer Camp the evening before opening day, where the tradition and rituals of deer hunting are considered sacred by Remnar Soady (Kyle Eichhorn, Clare). Strange happenings begin when the infamous Jimmer Nagaumee (Kevin Allen, Rose City) arrives in “Jimmer style,” and the DNR Ranger Tom (Quentin Day, Gladwin) comes to deer camp.
In a hunting story to beat all hunting stories, “Escanaba in Da Moonlight” spins a memorable tale of humor, horror, and heart as Reuben goes to any and all lengths to remove himself from the wrong end of the family record book.
Matinees are 2 p.m. April 19, 21, 26 and 28. An optional buffet luncheon is available at noon in the Harrison Cafeteria. Performance-only tickets are $10 and Luncheon/Performances $22. Luncheon tickets must be reserved and purchased in advance and seating is limited.
Evening performances are 7 p.m. April 22, 29 and 30. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years and under.
