A gift that has been homemade can be enjoyed long after the special day has come and gone. Preserving Food for Gifts will teach participants how to safely make homemade preserved gifts that others can enjoy. Join Lisa Treiber, Michigan State University Extension Food Safety Educator for a demonstration style program to learn about several items you can preserve for gift giving. Food items to be discussed include jams, jellies, pickled products, flavored vinegars, salsa and a sloppy Joe starter! Many of these items can be done several weeks ahead of your event using basic equipment you may already have on hand. Learn to safely preserve and make homemade gifts will be something you, your friends and family will treasure! Participants will take home recipes to try at home and be able to sample some of the recipes we discuss and demonstrate during the program. This special program will take place at the Clare MSU Extension office on November 7, 2016 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Cost is $15 per person; scholarships are available for participants receiving WIC, SNAP or other assistance benefits.
