The Mid Michigan Community College Lakers athletic program is hosting its 8th annual golf outing at Snow Snake in Harrison on Aug. 18. The fundraiser supports men’s and women’s basketball scholarships for student athletes.
After a successful season last year, the MMCC Lakers are gearing up for the winter basketball season. Scholarships for student athletes help coaches recruit talented players and the scholarships provide much needed support as students pursue degrees.
“The golf outing is a really fun event,” said Ryan Harkrader, MMCC’s athletic director. “It’s been a popular fundraiser and a critical part of building a winning program.”
MMCC has varsity athletic teams for men and women in basketball, cross country, and bowling. Each team offers athletic scholarships and hosts a fundraiser to support the program.
The MMCC Lakers participate in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). In the MCCAA, the Lakers compete with 19 other community colleges for conference championships before moving on to national tournaments at the NJCAA level.
“Our goal is to continue the development of athletics so they offer a great opportunity for students and provide value to the community,” said Harkrader.
The basketball golf outing is $70 per golfer and features food, games, prizes, raffles, and an opportunity to win a car with a hole-in-one.
